The chart below shows the actual annual costs of ownership for alternative railroad ties available in the market (wood, cement, plastic, and steel) based on their average life spans. The Hansen all-rubber tie was added to the chart based on AREMA lab results since no in-track analysis of costs for the rubber tie have been evaluated.
100 Hansen all-rubber railroad ties were produced in a pilot plant to test the product using rail industry standards. The Hansen ties, as tested, meet or exceed all standards for alternative railroad ties as promulgated by the American Railroad Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) standards. Chart below shows actual test results.
